Documents and access items

Protect identification, passports, deeds, leases, closing papers, insurance records, keys, garage remotes, and access cards. Keep them in a closed container that leaves with you, not in a room being cleared.

Medication and daily-use essentials

Set aside medication, mobility aids, pet supplies, chargers, work equipment, and the clothes needed through moving day. A good removal label does not replace physical separation.

Hazardous household products

CalRecycle says household hazardous waste cannot go in ordinary garbage, storm drains, or on the ground. Keep paint, chemicals, fuels, pesticides, batteries, and unknown liquids out of the general removal group and check the current local collection program.

Fixtures and property that is not yours

Confirm whether mounted televisions, shelving, appliances, window treatments, or smart-home devices stay with the property. Renters should separate landlord-owned items; sellers should check the sale agreement.

Items awaiting family or donation pickup

Do not mix promised items into the removal pile. Give them a dated pickup deadline and a separate area. Donation acceptance is never guaranteed, so confirm it before the final handoff date.
